Telehealth Informed Consent

Best Life Counseling Services

Effective Date: March 10th 2026

This document explains the benefits, risks, and procedures involved in participating in counseling or therapy services using telehealth technology. Telehealth allows therapy sessions to take place using secure video conferencing or other electronic communication methods instead of meeting in person.

By participating in telehealth services with Best Life Counseling Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understand the information in this consent form.

What Telehealth Is

Telehealth refers to the delivery of mental health services using electronic communication technologies such as secure video platforms, phone calls, or other digital systems that allow a therapist and client to communicate remotely.

Telehealth services are intended to provide counseling support when in-person visits are not possible or preferred.

How Telehealth Sessions Work

Telehealth sessions are conducted using secure communication platforms designed to protect privacy.

During telehealth sessions:

  • You and your therapist will communicate using video or phone technology.

  • Sessions will typically follow the same structure and duration as in-person appointments.

  • You are responsible for ensuring you have a private location where you feel comfortable speaking openly.

Clients should ensure they have a reliable internet connection and appropriate device before the session begins.

Potential Benefits of Telehealth

Telehealth services may provide several benefits, including:

  • Increased access to therapy services

  • Greater flexibility in scheduling

  • Reduced travel time

  • Ability to attend sessions from home or another private location

For many individuals, telehealth can make mental health care more convenient and accessible.

Potential Risks of Telehealth

Although telehealth has many benefits, there are also potential risks, including:

  • Technology failures such as internet disruptions

  • Possible interruptions in audio or video communication

  • Security risks related to electronic communication

  • Limitations in the therapist’s ability to observe non-verbal cues compared to in-person sessions

Every effort will be made to minimize these risks through the use of secure platforms and professional standards of care.

Confidentiality

Your privacy and confidentiality remain important during telehealth sessions.

Best Life Counseling Services will take reasonable steps to ensure that telehealth platforms used for therapy comply with privacy and security standards.

However, clients should understand that:

  • Electronic communication may carry some risk despite safeguards.

  • Privacy may be affected if sessions occur in locations where others can overhear.

Clients are encouraged to participate from a quiet, private space whenever possible.

Emergency Situations

Telehealth services are not intended for crisis or emergency situations.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact emergency services or a crisis hotline immediately.

In the United States, you may contact:

  • Emergency Services: 911

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Dial 988

Clients participating in telehealth may be asked to provide their physical location at the beginning of sessions in case emergency assistance becomes necessary.

Technology Requirements

To participate in telehealth sessions, you may need:

  • A computer, smartphone, or tablet with internet access

  • A camera and microphone for video sessions

  • A stable internet connection

Clients are responsible for ensuring their equipment and connection are functional prior to the session.

Right to Withdraw Consent

Participation in telehealth services is voluntary.

You may withdraw your consent to participate in telehealth services at any time without affecting your right to receive services in another format, when available.

By participating in telehealth services with Best Life Counseling Services, you acknowledge that:

  • You have read and understand the information provided in this Telehealth Informed Consent.
